    • Our phone line is open Monday to Friday from 8.30 to 4.00pm. Phone the clinic on 06 838 8333 during these hours to speak to our admin team. They will take your call and place you on the triage board, and someone from the triage team will call you back to arrange your appointment.

    • You can also walk-in to the clinic and talk to the receptionists who will place you on the triage board and again, one of our triage team will contact you to arrange your appointment.

  • The clinic receives on average 300 phone calls and walk-ins per day, on Mondays this number is much higher. The two-person triage team works very hard to phone everyone back in a timely way.

    The triage team prioritises unwell patients in the first instance. Call backs can range from minutes to hours. Be prepared to wait, if you cannot wait, please walk-in to the clinic, or call 111 if you are unwell.

  • The Wairoa Hospital and Te Wairoa Medical Centre are situated in the same building, and they both work together to care for the community, however they are separate entities.

    Health NZ or Te Whatu Ora run The Wairoa Hospital. This is a small rural hospital with:

    • inpatient beds

    • an Emergency Department

    • a Primary birthing unit

    • Community Mental Health and Addictions services

    • and many other Outpatient appointments

    • No - we prioritise patient  care and safety which means one health issue per appointment (generally speaking). Please be prepared for follow-up appointments to address remaining health concerns.

    In the first instance we ask that non-enrolled patients:

    1. Phone your own medical centre and ask for a phone consultation with a nurse or doctor.

    2. Contact a Telehealth doctor service like Tend at https://www.tend.nz/ ~ Tend working hours are 7:30am - 5:30pm, Monday to Friday.

    3. Contact an after hours Telehealth doctor service like Ka Ora Telecare at https://kaora.co.nz/ and 0800 2 KA ORA (0800 252 672). Ka Ora Telecare is available weekdays in the evening and overnight with hours - 5pm to 8.30am. Weekends and Public Holidays – 24 Hours a Day

    • In general - yes, however there can be significant delays in receiving specialist letters. Please phone the clinic on 06 838 8333 to discuss further.

    • Great question, please phone the clinic on 06 838 8333 and talk to the triage team. They can update you on cervical screening, breast screening, bowel screening, heart health checks, diabetes checks, immunisations, or blood tests.

  • Its up to you, you do not have to disclose this information. However, our doctors and nurses triage all bookings, and any information you choose to share with reception helps us prioritise appointments and ensure timely care.
